  15. One of the major problems I have with the list is finding out when
  16. boards go out of existence.  They do this quite often and without
  17. notice.
  18.

  20.         | Starting JANUARY 1, 1996, you *MUST* update |
  21.         | your BBS entry once every 180 DAYS to       | 
  22.         | remain on the USBBS List.                   |

  25. Boards on the list as of JANUARY 1, 1996, will be "grandfathered" and
  26. will not be removed until JANUARY 1, 1997.  This will give time for
  27. the word to spread.

  29. Check out "The A-List" article below for a reason to update
  30. your BBS every *90 days*.

  47. Mark Adkins, the operator of BlueLake BBS in West Linn, OR,
  48. will be moving effective Feb 1996.  He will not maintain
  49. Blue Lake as a full-time BBS.  Because of this, updates will
  50. no longer be collected from BlueLake effective immediately.

  52. Thanks for Mark and his excellent BBS for their support of
  53. the USBBS List.  We wish Mark the best of luck in his future
  54. endeavors.

  59. BBS Magazine now prints an annotated list of BBS systems derived
  60. from updates to the USBBS list for the last three months. Updates
  61. made by one of the following methods with the FOCUS field entered 
  62. are the only updates considered:

  64. * Call BOBsBBS (916-929-7511)
  65. * Connect to the USBBS homepage 
  66. * Create with USBBSUP.EXE and upload to BOBsBBS or mail
  67.   to the editor
  68.  
  69. The "A-List" contains all the information from the USBBS list
  70. *plus* the FOCUS field entered by the updaters.  This makes it 
  71. a very valuable list for callers searching for a board with a 
  72. particular focus.

  121. BOBsBBS (916-929-7511) is still the best way for updates or to
  122. reach the USBBS.

  126. BOBsBBS supports a set of special ID's which are for downloading
  127. the USBBS list ONLY.  Here they are:
  128.  
  129. ID                  PROTOCOL
  130. USBBS ZMODEM        Zmodem
  131. USBBS YMODEM        Ymodem
  132. USBBS XMODEM        Xmodem-Checksum
  133. USBBS CRC           Xmodem-CRC
  134. USBBS Xmodem1k      Xmodem-1K

  136. These ID's have no passwords and go through a special script
  137. which starts the download immediately after logon.  To help
  138. you automate your downloads, here are the phrases to wait
  139. for and the responses to enter:
  140.  
  141. WAIT FOR                      ENTER
  142. Graphics                      <Enter>
  143. LAST name                     {id};;
  144. Protocol starts immediately   start protocol download
  145.  
  146. Wait approximately 1 second after detecting each phrase.
  147.  
  148. Notice that there is a set of two semi-colons (";;") after
  149. the {id}.  This by-passes the password prompt.  You MUST
  150. enter this or you will get the "PASSWORD" prompt.  For
  151. example, you would enter "USBBS ZMODEM;;" in response to the
  152. "LAST name" prompt.

  154. The connection is terminated immediately after the download
  155. is completed.

  160. This is a release schedule for USBBS for the next several
  161. months.  The list is released on the last weekend of the
  162. month, unless there is some reason to revise this schedule.
  163. Here are a couple of known exceptions:
  164.  
  165. - If the first of the next month is on a weekend, the list
  166.   is released on that weekend.
  167. - If the last weekend of the month is a holiday weekend, the
  168.   list distribution may be adjusted.
  169. - If I will be out of town or otherwise occupied on the release
  170.   weekend, the list distribution will be adjusted.
  171.  
  172. The list is usually available sometime on Sunday afternoon of the
  173. release weekend.  If you want to avoid long distance calls, I'd
  174. suggest that you call Sunday after 6p, Pacific Time.  Of course,
  175. since this is my hobby, there are no guarantees.
  176.  
  177. All revisions for the list should be in by the Monday before
  178. the release date to help assure that I get them and add them
  179. to the list.  Although some parts of this effort are automated,
  180. much is manual.  I cannot guarantee that I will be able to get
  181. revisions received after Monday into the next list edition.
  182.  
  183. PLEASE NOTE:  Because I do this for free, I reserve the
  184. right to change this schedule without notice.  Notices about
  185. distribution are posted on BOBsBBS (916-929-7511).  Sorry
  186. for any inconvenience this causes.

  188. SYSOPS, please note:  I sometimes have difficulty reaching
  189. the remote update points before the release date.  If the
  190. board is down or constantly busy, I may not be able to
  191. collect the information before the update for that month.

  193. will be considered for the next edition of the list.
